Diageo's Health & Safety policy and international best practices
● Provide focused safety leadership and direction for both site/functional leadership and shop floor (own & contractor personnel) on site to ensure that the business safely delivers a net sales value of >$500 mln, gross profit of >$150 mln
and sustain investors and shareholders confidence.
● Directly responsible for the management of the logistics annual HSE budget (circa $300,000), judiciously utilizing the
budget in driving 100% safety compliance across organization with significant value addition to the business growth and employee motivation.
● Support development and deployment of HSE programs aimed at driving Diageo's zero (0) harm agenda; hazard
identification, evaluation and control, accident/injury prevention, hazardous material/waste management, emergency
preparedness, business continuity programs, environmental regulatory compliance, etc.
● Champion investigation of incidents, conduct independent assurance/audit on safe operations and compliance to regulations, standards (severe and fatal incident prevention-SFIP), procedures and guidelines.
● Ensure objectives (KPI's) outlined in the site HSE statements are achieved and updated on Enablon. Conduct primary
validation of HSE KPI data inputted into Enablon for submission to the global team for analysis that supports informed
risk elimination decisions.
● Champion sustainability efforts aimed at supporting Diageo in achieving its ESG/Society 2030 commitments via the spirit of progress plan -50% water reduction, 50% reduction in scope 1&2 emissions, Inclusion, and diversity, promote
responsible drinking and grain to glass activities.
Oversee 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) Transport Safety Audit for all major transporters across Nigeria (>30 haulers, >800
hundred trucks, >800 drivers)
● Provide strategic support to the Global Transport Safety team in auditing transporters across the globe, focusing on the
3PL programme 5 pillars (vehicle maintenance, drivers' management, HSEMS, Organizational structure, trip and journey management).
Monitored SPDC's compliance with relevant health and safety laws, standards, regulations, and provided expert advice
to employees, employers, and contractors on safe operational systems in the work environment whilst maintaining a
positive safety culture.
● Developed and championed implementation of production facility's HSE-MS and HSE Plan, with a 100% achievement
on target. Identified gaps for integration into the HSSE-MS reviews to produce a robust HSE-MS and HSE Plan that
continues to sustain zero loss time injury (LTI).
● Designed and monitored the implementation of safe system of work for Gbaran-Ubie 28km pipeline project (>$200
million, >120 personnel) achieving >3.2 million man-hours LTI free. Deepened the conversations on goal zero,
conducted toolbox meetings; HSE inspection; risk assessment; identified and addressed unsafe acts/unsafe conditions
(UA/UC) and monitored compliance with permit to work (PTW).
● Drive the implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives such as the beat plastic pollution (BPP) and paper
reduction strategy to drive 70% reduction in single use plastic and paper across SPDC.
● Led over 50 incident Investigations and liaised with incident persons, witnesses, and key personnel to identify root cause
and recommend corrective actions with intent to prevent repeat incidents.
● Conducted emergency response drills (fire, medical, security, spill) to test effectiveness of emergency response plans and identified gaps for improvement with intent of preventing escalation in the event of an incident.
● Championed the execution of corporate HSE Plans and programs (goal zero, no harm, no leak and PPE compliance campaign) aimed at sustaining SPDC's outstanding HSE performance.
Managed health, safety and environment concerns of Conad Industrial Services and promoted health and safety
awareness in the workplace by organizing safety talks, toolbox meetings and safety awareness/campaign with goal of achieving and sustaining zero LTA
● Provided knowledge sharing and awareness training on >50 safety, health, and administrative topics for personnel and contractors
● Supervised the execution of turn around maintenance (TAM) for area A heat exchangers and tanks (300k Ltrs), achieved
1.6mln manhours no LTI with >40 POB, and a project cost of >$700,000.
● Piloted the implementation of the organization's environmental management system and coordinated waste management
in line with waste management plan.
● Investigated and reported all complaints of hazardous working conditions to senior leadership and provided support on
the enforcement of recommendations towards improvement of safety in the work environment.
