Position Summary
The District’s Engineering Department has an immediate opening for a paid Civil Engineering student intern. This internship program provides students with the opportunity to transition from college to the full-time workforce through hands-on training and knowledge sharing in both office and job site settings. Students can either work part-time or full-time depending on their class schedule. At its discretion, the District may offer a full-time entry level position of Junior Civil Engineer to recent graduates who filed job applications with the District and met the minimum requirements of the position. Successful participants of the program are eligible to receive a Student Loan Forgiveness of $3,000 to be applied to their outstanding student loans once they enter the post-graduation employment with the District.
Essential Responsibilities
* Assists in reviewing and interpreting plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of construction, repair and maintenance projects.
* Assists in inspecting District's facilities and preparing inspection reports.
* Assists in inspecting construction projects and preparing inspection reports.
* Performs quantity calculations based on design plans.
* Assists in collection of material samples for laboratory analysis.
* Assists in assembling construction bid documents.
* Assists in processing construction contract change orders.
* Learns and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable work assignments.
* Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
* Performs additional related duties as assigned.
