Senior Research Scientist

The Senior Research Scientist contributes to research and algorithm development for Technology Development Services. This includes developing advanced methods for wellbore positioning, automated geosteering, drilling automation, and drilling control systems. This person works closely with the Technology Development Team to ensure advancements, execution, testing and implementation of newly developed technology.

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:  

• Gather business requirements and use cases for projects 
• Produce design specifications 
• Conduct scientific research to develop algorithms for the processing, modeling, and interpretation of drilling-related data 
• Develop automated control system algorithms 
• Build prototype applications applying new technology 
• Develop test plans, carry out and document tests on sample data 
• Produce reports and documentation 
• Provide scientific guidance and advice to junior scientists 
• Publish papers and present research results at conferences 
• Protect new inventions with patent applications  

Qualifications:

• Master's (PhD degree preferred) in Math, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related applied math/science discipline
• Statistical Data Analysis. 
• Strong background in statistics and data analysis 
• Proficiency in algorithm and prototype development using Python, Matlab, or R
• Deep understanding of math and physics concepts 
• Technical writing 
• Knowledge of control systems engineering 
• Experience with regression modelling and machine learning 
• Knowledge and experience in drilling technology 
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C and Java 
• Experience with digital signal processing 
• Experience creating web applications 
• Experience with parallel computing 
• Experience working in an Agile project management environment 
• Track record of publications and presentations
